Made as a marrige gift for town wear amongst the Christian Orthodox community in Prizren, Kosovo. Such coats were traditionally given by the groom to the bride, worn at the wedding and subsequently for festive occasions.
This sleeveless coat dates from the mid-1800s. The outside is made of silk and the inside is of cotton. The thread used for embroidery was wrapped with metal to create the gold and silver effect.
Imagine how much work that took to create.
